Lee K. Thornton was born into a medical family in Merdian Mississippi where he was raised and graduated from high school. Thornton graduated with honors from the University of Mississippi and Millsaps College, working as a laboratory instructor for Millsaps’ Department of Biology before entering medical school at Tulane University in New Orleans.
During his 4 years in New Orleans, Dr. Thornton completed his MD degree as well as a dual Masters Degree in Public Health and Tropical Medicine (MPH&TM), graduating in the top of his class in both schools. He next moved to Denver, Colorado in order to undertake an internship in Community Medicine at University of Colorado Hospitals.
Thornton was accepted into the general surgery training program of one of the most competitive training programs in the country at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center where he completed five years of training to become board certified in general surgery. He was then accepted into one of the most renowned and sought after positions in Plastic Surgery training worldwide at Emory University in Atlanta. After completing his Plastic Surgery training at Emory, he was selected to do an additional fellowship in Cosmetic and Oculoplastic Surgery at Paces Plastic Surgery Center in Atlanta. He has served on the International Committee for ASAPS and was selected to be one the Medical Advisory Board Members for The Plastic Surgery Channel. He was also selected as one of the top 10 Best Plastic Surgeons in Mississippi in 2015.
He had never considered returning to his hometown of Meridian. However in 1998, with a two year old daughter, Kinsey, and identical twins, Hannah and Madi on the way, he and his wife Michelle thought it would be nice to be around family and out of the busy city life. They decided to move back home to establish Meridian Plastic Surgery and the practice has continued to grow every year. Dr. Thornton focuses primarily on cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the face and body.
He and Michelle live on the family farm just outside of Meridian where they welcomed their fourth child, Lachlan, to the family in 2006. Any extra time he has he spends with his busy family. He enjoys collecting and playing guitars, and is always looking to improve his golf game with Lachlan’s help.

I was greeted cordially and treated with upmost respect. The wait was less than 15 minutes, and I was really surprised since the waiting room was full. My visit was on Monday and on Tuesday I received the call with the good biopsy report. I will definitely not hesitate to use Dr. Thornton should the need arise in the future.
